Material overview

Clear Petg – Clear Petg sheets are a co-polyester material; it’s lightweight and can handle significant impact. Clear Petg has a high-sheen finish.

Mylar® - Mylar® (which is also known as polyethylene terephthalate) is a flexible form of polyester film. It is robust, strong and highly malleable.

Rowmark™ engraving laminates – Generally these engraving laminates are acrylic based plastic and are specifically designed with sign making in mind, although they are also popularly used for arts, crafts and similar purposes. 2-ply laminates can be used to create a sign with two colours.

Common applications

Clear Petg, Mylar® and Rowmark™ engraving laminates are used for: glazing; modelling; protective screens; designer prototypes; arts; crafts and signage.

Laser cutting

Clear Petg – PETG sheets arrive with protective films on either side – these should be left on in order to protect the material from scratches and heat marks.

Mylar® - Mylar® lends itself well to laser cutting, easily producing an accurate and clean finish.

Rowmark™ engraving laminates – These laminates are supplied with protective film on both sides. This protects from marking, and will generally melt when laser cut.

Cut edge

Clear Petg – Clear Petg edges have a high-sheen effect, this is due to the laser frequency we use, which instantly melts the edges as the material is being cut.

Mylar® - Mylar® edges produce softly cut edges due to the slight melting they undergo when a laser is applied.

Rowmark™ engraving laminates – When laser cut the edges of these laminates is clean and results in a high-sheen effect.

Laser engraving

Clear Petg – We provide both raster and vector engraving on clear petg down to a depth of 2mm, this produces a slight contrast, with a shiny appearance.

Engraving on a deeper level is not recommended as it can make the material difficult to handle and the results are unpredictable.

Mylar® - Laser engraving on Mylar® is achieved with vector engraving.

Rowmark™ engraving laminates – We provide both raster and vector engraving on Rowmark™ laminates. The process involves lasering away the top surface, to reveal the layer below – this is what creates the contrast between colours. These laminates are provided with protective films, although this is removed prior to applying the laser (which reduces the amount and severity of scorch marks). Where we work with large surface areas, lines within the engraving are to be expected.
